Support for local projects keeping veterans’ stories alive

The Member for O’Connor, Rick Wilson MP, has welcomed funding for two local projects under the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.

The Shire of Boyup Brook will receive $6,000 for upgrades at the Walk of Remembrance at the local War Memorial, while the Shire of Bruce Rock will receive $30,000 to support its 2026 Back to the Bush 25th Reunion.

Mr Wilson said the projects reflect the way regional communities honour service and keep those stories alive.

“Backing local projects like these helps ensure the service of our veterans is recognised and remembered in our towns,” he said.

Mr Wilson visited the Boyup Brook War Memorial earlier this year with local RSL Sub-Branch President Colin Hales and said the upgrade would strengthen an already important site.

“These are places people come together - to reflect and to remember,” he said.

Mr Wilson encouraged community groups across O’Connor to consider applying for future rounds.

“There are always new opportunities becoming available, and I’d encourage community groups to apply. Please feel free to contact our office - we are always happy to support applications,” he said.
