STOP THE PHOSPHINE RED TAPE

Phosphine is essential to our grain industry.

It means we can safely ship our grain around the world without insects contaminating it.

But from 1 December 2026, the workplace exposure limit is set to fall from 0.3 ppm to just 0.05 ppm.

The US, UK, New Zealand and major grain-producing regions of Canada operate at 0.3 ppm.

New restrictions could also require phosphine use to be separated by 800 metres from neighbouring properties, potentially affecting grain terminals and receival points across regional WA.

Victoria has already delayed the new limits for three years while further assessment is undertaken.

These changes could affect how grain is stored, treated and prepared for export, with flow-on effects for farmers, local businesses and regional communities.

WA's grain industry needs practical rules that protect workers while allowing our grain supply chain to keep operating.
