Rick Wilson MP encourages local groups to support veterans

Federal Member for O'Connor Rick Wilson is encouraging community organisations across the electorate to apply for funding under the 2026-27 Veteran Wellbeing Grants Program, with more than $3.7 million available for projects that support veterans and their families.

Mr Wilson said Australians owe a lasting debt to the men and women who have served in uniform, many of whom have been exposed to situations and experiences most Australians will never witness firsthand.

"Service to our country often comes with sacrifices that extend well beyond a veteran's time in uniform," Mr Wilson said.

"Whether they served overseas, responded to humanitarian crises or carried out demanding duties here at home, many veterans live with experiences that most of us can scarcely imagine.

"That's why it is so important that we continue to invest in programs that support their wellbeing, strengthen community connections and ensure veterans and their families know they are not facing challenges alone."

Mr Wilson said recent progress on veteran support, including the successful push to remove caps on allied health services for veterans, highlighted the importance of ensuring those who have served receive the care and support they need.

"Veterans should never have to fight another battle to access the support they deserve," he said.

"Community organisations play a vital role in that effort, particularly in regional areas where local networks and grassroots support can make all the difference."

Eligible organisations can apply for grants of up to $50,000 for local community projects, or between $50,001 and $200,000 for larger initiatives aimed at improving health and wellbeing outcomes for veterans and their families.

"I encourage organisations across O'Connor to have a look at the program and consider what opportunities may exist to better support local veterans and their families," Mr Wilson said.

Applications close on 10 November 2026. Further information is available through the Department of Veterans' Affairs website.
